UPDATE: Congratulations to our winner, Bryan!
Thank you to everyone who left a comment, this was fun. Let’s do another giveaway next month.

Yesterday I was finally feeling better after a nasty cold and I pondered how I could snap myself out of a five-day funk. By the end of the hour-long train ride home from work, it came to me. The first Autograph University giveaway!
As a special thank you to my readers I’m giving away this Dwight Howard autographed 8×10 from my personal collection. Dwight signed this for me outside the Orlando Magic team hotel in Boston a few years ago and I don’t have to tell you that this is an awesome item.
All you need to do for a chance to win is leave a comment and answer the question—what do you like best about Dwight Howard’s game?
On Sunday evening, right after Christina Aguilera finishes singing the national anthem at Super Bowl XLV, I will randomly choose a winner (each comment will be assigned a number and I will use an online generator) and post the result on this page. One comment per person please.
Have fun and good luck!
I like that he is tall. Tall people play basketball well.
The most I like about Dwight’s game is the way he protects the basket. Even if he cannot get the block, he is constantly changing opponents shot attempts, often causing them to miss. I would say he probably saves the Magic an average of 8-10 points a game just by his presence on the floor.
Dwight has the size and athleticism to be great. But he has the swagger to be a legend. Anyone in the league has to respect Dwight’s game in protecting the basket. Taking weak shit to the rim around Dwight gets you embarrassed.
I like the way Dwight plays defense. He always hustles, and is back at the basket ready to steal the ball back. He never lets up, which is why he is so successful.
I like that he shows the enthusiasm of a little kid playing basketball. I feel like a lot of players take basketball a little too serious and are total douchebags. Dwight is a great guy!
Gotta love the guy’s sense of humor. I give credit to anyone who can make all that money and not lose that sense of fun and joy that comes from playing a game.
I like Dwight’s commitment and work ethic. Though he was good his rookie year, he is continually growing into a complete player and leader.
Good idea, Matt.
I like how Dwight Howard makes watching basketball fun. I am not the biggest fan of basketball, but whenever Howard is on the tv, I always watch, because you never know what he is going to do next.
I like Dwight’s athleticism and the intensity he plays with. It seems like he always goes full speed when attacking the basket.
I like his size and how he uses it to his advantage
The way he always has fun. He truely loves the game.
He’s a down to earth, regular guy. He’s not bigger than everyone else, egowise. Hence, he’s friendly and likes to sign autographs!
I like that he is a big imposing figure on the court but always has a big smile and acts like a big kid. He’s friendly to fans and seems to genuinely enjoy playing ball. That and he’s pretty good too
I love how Dwight plays the game with such great passion! He puts everything on the line every game. I also like how he is a mad rebounder. I wish more players would understand rebounding is the most important part of the game.
Dwight appears to be a humble guy but doesn’t back down from anyone and doesn’t put up with any crap. He’s athletic, physical and a true competitor. Anytime you have to build a game plan around one guy on a team that’s enough said.
I like that he is a multi tool player he can defend, he can drive the ball and he is a smart player. Not too flashy but he has just enough. He plays the game like it it supposed to be played!
Dwight Howard rules!! I hope i win this signed pic!
I like that he plays defense. Not too many NBA stars try at all on the defensive end.
Versatility has to be Dwight’s best attribute. Everyone on this blog has said something true about Dwight’s game but I think it’s his versatility that makes him one of the greats. Until recently, Dwight was seen as a powerful player who scored mostly in the paint. Sportscenter would count the number of dunks he had in each game. Now Dwight can step outside of the paint and hit the 10-12 foot jump shot and score with his back to the basket. Clearly his defensive awards speak for themselve and the joy and excitement he plays with, you can’t help but be a fan of Dwight’s.
The fact that he is such an amicable guy off the court and is very laid back and loose but on the hardwood he flips a switch and dominates the low block not so much with raw power but finesse and athleticism not often seen in big men.
Howard is superman! one of the best defenders in the league
I really liked his dunk in the all star game in the Superman costume. He really looks like he is having fun out there!
The fact he is having fun, but doing it in a professional manner at the same time has always been a big selling point for me. He is big and strong, but you can just see in his eyes and game – that he wants to be more than a bruiser inside. Personally, his defensive presence is amazing to me. He is all over the ball even when he isn’t near it. You can’t teach that.. it’s instinct. Plus.. the child-like love of the game ALWAYS impresses me. Dwight is an overall special player with the athleticsm and “IT Factor” to become an NBA icon.
I liked ‘jeff’s’ comment, well-thought out 🙂
I guess what I like best about Dwight’s game is his vertical leap for a guy his size. You don’t see too many 6’11” players that have a vertical of 40″. The man is a freak of nature to be as athletic as he is for a guy his size. There is no equal.
I like how hard Dwight Howard dunks the ball! Every dunk is with force.
This won, seriously?
Randomly selected.
I love how well-rounded his game is. Paying just as much attention to defense and rebounding as putting the ball in the hoop….makes for a well rounded team
As everyone else, there are many things I like about Dwight Howard. He is 1 of only 3 people ever to be drafted 1st overall out of high school (Kwame Brown in 2001, LeBron James in 2003 and Dwight in 2004). He averages a career double-double, 2x defensive POY, 5x All-Star (3x first team), 2008 Slam Dunk Champion and helping USA to win Olympic gold in 2008. That goes along with his amazing high school awards Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award, Gatorade National Player of the Year and McDonald’s National High School Player of the Year.
However being a youth leader and Sunday School teacher, my favorite thing about D Howard is his faith and his work to get Christianity in the league and throughout the world. In the slam dunk contest he stuck a sticker to the back board after an alley oop from Jameer Nelson. The sticker was of Howards face with Philippians 4:13 written on it.
Thanks and God Bless
I like that he can have a lot of fun on the court and still dominate
I like the fact that not only is Dwight a force on the court, with powerful rebounding and dunking ability – but he is also a FORCE off of the court. By that, I mean that he brings his off-court sense of humor and personality onto the court, whether it is a game situation or a dunk contest. Dwight is a very humble individual and has a great outlook on life…an honest zest for life and for the game, and it shows. He doesn’t try to put on a macho “tough guy” image – he just goes out there and plays the game, and acts like he enjoys every part of it. He also seems to enjoy genuine fan interaction as well, and seems to always be looking to entertain. So with that being said – my favorite part about Dwight is that he is Dwight – on the court and off.
I love how dwight rebounds. Hes one of the best rebounders in the game. After that ball leaves the rim he makes it his goal to grab that board!
I like Dwight Howard as a character. He brings so much enthusiasm and heart to the game and you can see that he really wants to win. There is much to be improved regarding his offensive game, but I cannot fault DH12 for playing his heart out night in, night out.
hahahah i like that your doing this….
he’s a GREAT guy, 1 per tho.
I am forever indebted to you for this inorfmaotin.
I like how Dwight plays without siffness he is very loose and goes all out. Dwight has a great counterpartner in J-Rich.
I think the best part of Dwight’s game is the fact he tries to dunk everytime he gets the ball in the paint!!!
What I like about Dwight’s game is his all around game. He can pretty much do it all. I liike Dwight as a defender and I think a lot of big men in the NBA can learn from him. I like that he still has fun with the game.
Like many others here I like Dwight Howard’s obvious passion for the game. He always seem to be enjoying himself, but at the same time can make a distinction between when is a time for goofing around and when is a time for locking it up. I think that certain players have that “killer instinct” that intensifies the way they play at the end of a game and Dwight is one of them. As the Spartan’s would say in 300, “It isn’t fear that grips him, only a heightened sense of things”. Dwight just does was he was trained to do, what he was bred to do, what he was born to do (grab 20-10 of course).
To me, Dwight’s passion for basketball and his thirst to learn from the history of the game is what makes him such a special talent. Sure it’s great that he is 6′ 11″ and can jump out of a building, but those are simply gifts that God blessed him with. It’s his drive to be a student of the game that is something too many players in today’s game (especially NBA basketball) are sorely missing. Players come into the NBA on their physical talents alone and typically cannot thrive because they don’t take time to look back at what made the games legends great. Success is generally measured on the rings on your fingers and you can tell Dwight puts his Ego aside to realize that there is a lot he can learn from some of the NBA’s finest. If you have never had the chance, watch this video with Dwight Howard and Bill Russell, I suggest you take a couple minutes to do so if you are a fan. Who better to learn from and model your game after than one of the NBA’s all time greats? Russell, also big man known for his tremendous Defense, Shot blocking and Rebounding…oh and 11 of those big shiny Championship rings!
Enjoy this video if you haven’t seen it. It’s only 2:41

Hey Matt,
Thanks for signing up on Rackrs today. You have a great site. Really enjoy all the info. Oh yeah, D. Howard is super cool.
Thanks Ruben. Looking forward to taking a closer look at Rackrs.
His sense of humor…everyone knows the dunk contests with him and his superman cape, eating cupcakes exemplifies Dwight
I like that he’s always smiling on the court, knows how to have fun playing the game. It also helps that he could probably dunk on a 12 foot rim.
His defense! He grabs boards and blocks shots….and drops 40 on my Bulls
It’s not necessarily a skill, but it seems like he is always having fun on the court.
i hope i get #23 lol…but anyways i like the fact that he has such a solid selection of different dunk styles
Nothing. I don’t watch basketball.
His pure love of the game, his athleticism, and his ability to drive the ball.
his passing when he gets double teamed to the three point shooters is one of his best attributes
Without a doubt, his love of the game. One of the few players (out of all sports) that you can tell absolutely loves playing the game.
I love how he dominated the boards and slams home the ball!! But the one thing that stands out is how much he smiles. You can tell he is having a blast out there!!
